NASA researchers can now tell who all went to space by studying microbes! Scientists study microbial fingerprint on space


NASA is currently studying on its new research about microorganisms. The study specifically focusses on the ‘microbial fingerprints‘ that astronauts leave behind on the International Space Station. The research shows a very interesting theory about the history of the space station. Because according to the research the microbes present in the atmosphere of the International space station match with the ones present here on the surface of the astronaut’s skin.

Human beings roam around the planet with millions of microorganisms on the surface of their skin, many of which are harmless. These microbes go from place to place. They shed off wherever humans inhabit. However, no one knew that the same is possible even for space. When scientists collected a sample of microbes from an astronaut who went to ISS and came back to earth, it was seen that microbe samples of earth match with that of space. This helps to understand exactly when a person went to space and came back.

How does ‘microbial fingerprint’ help NASA astronauts

In space, the most common thing in the list of forgetting is time itself. The study shows that the most important thing that people forget is how many days, months, or years have gone by. Sometimes it becomes difficult to keep track of the calendar system. So this is another new way to keep track of time through microbial testing.
